DMCA Takedown Notice

Stack Exchange has adopted the following toward copyright infringement in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. To submit a copyright takedown request, please review the following.

Note that we reserve the right to pursue legal action for submitting false or frivolous notices of copyright infringement. As such, please consider all circumstances prior to submitting your request, including fair use and other licensing exceptions and limitations.

Reporting Copyright Infringements

If you believe that content residing or accessible on any Stack Exchange site infringes a copyright, please send a notice of copyright infringement containing the following information to the Designated Copyright Agent at the address below:

  • A description of the copyrighted work(s) or material(s) claimed to be infringing with sufficient detail so that we are capable of finding and verifying its existence, to include the location(s) and URL(s) of the asserted infringing work(s) or material(s).
  • Contact information, including company name (if applicable), name of the contact, and preferred contact email or physical address, if different than the address from which the request was received.
  • A statement indicating that you have a good faith belief that the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or law.
  • A statement made under penalty of perjury that the information provided in the notice is accurate and that you are authorized to make the complaint on behalf of the copyright owner.
  • Your physical or electronic signature, depending on the submission method.

Upon receiving notice of an alleged copyright infringement that meets all of the requirements above, Stack will:

  • Review the allegations to determine whether it has a reasonable, good faith belief the allegedly copyrighted material has been illegally copied and distributed on the identified Stack Exchange site, and if so, disable access to or remove the work(s) or material(s).
  • Immediately notify the responsible party for the allegedly infringing material that Stack has removed or disabled access to the work(s) or material(s).

Stack reserves the right, at its discretion, to immediately suspend or terminate the account of any user who is the subject of repeated takedown notices.

Filing Copyright Counterclaims

A user who believes they are the wrongful subject of a copyright infringement notice asserted against them may file a counterclaim with Stack by providing the following items in writing to the Designated Copyright Agent at the address below:

  • A description of the copyrighted work(s) or material(s) Stack removed or disabled access to with sufficient detail so that we are able to locate where the claimed infringing materials were, to include the affected location(s) and URL(s) of the removed or disabled work(s) or material(s).
  • Contact information, including company name (if applicable), name of the counterclaiming party, and preferred contact email or physical address.
  • A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of Federal District Court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or New York County, New York if your address is outside of the United States), and that you will accept service of process from the person who provided notification under subsection (c)(1)(C) or an agent of such person.
  • The following statement: "I swear, under penalty of perjury, that I have a good faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of a mistake or misidentification of the material to be removed or disabled."
  • Your physical or electronic signature, depending on the submission method.

Upon receipt of a counterclaim, Stack will forward it to the party who submitted the original copyright infringement claim. The original complainant will then have 10 days to notify us that they have filed legal action relating to the allegedly infringing material. If Stack does not receive any such notification within 10 days, Stack reserves the right to restore the claimed infringing work(s) or material(s).
